Our story
Mes Amies Dance Company was founded in 2012 with a single weekly adult ballet class. Amie had no idea just how popular an adult ballet class would be in Northampton, but it soon became clear there was huge demand – particularly from adults who had danced when they were younger and were looking for more than a beginner class: something that would continue to challenge them and make use of the skills they'd learnt previously.
From there, we added more adult ballet classes, offering beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels, along with a specialist pointe class. Word quickly spread across Northampton about our adult dance classes, and with the addition of adult contemporary, tap, and musical theatre, the company continued to grow and thrive.
We soon became more than just a dance studio – we became a community. Through theatre trips, meals out, Christmas parties, shows, and other social events, many close friendships have formed, bringing together people from all walks of life with shared interests.
During lockdown, our busy online Zoom classes kept everyone moving – often from kitchens and living rooms – and when we finally returned to in-person sessions, we were thrilled to be back together. Continuing to thrive, we later introduced our popular Heels classes and commercial dance classes.
In 2024, with a six-week-old baby, Amie finally found the perfect venue she had been searching for. Taking on a major renovation project with a newborn and a toddler was no small feat, but it resulted in our beautiful boutique studio in the heart of Northampton – a place we can finally call home.
Our light and airy studio is now home to ballet, contemporary, heels, tap, musical theatre, commercial, yoga, barre, Pilates, Strength & Conditioning, and Silver Swans classes for adults, and we continue to grow as both a dance studio and a community. With our open-door policy, we welcome a diverse range of people and proudly share the message that anyone – and any body – can dance. All you need is the passion to move.
